The Acorn to continue publishing high-quality, fact-based news, apologizes for fake news

SIMPSON — Last Saturday, the Acorn published its first ever fake news story, suggesting we will be permanently shuttering our operations.

The staff at the Acorn would like to extend our deepest apologies to our loyal readers who were shocked, heartbroken and freaking out over what seemed a perfectly straightforward and believable announcement to make on the first day of April.

Our presses will, in fact, remain up and running for as long as there remains important news to report to the Simpson community.

Given the growing popularity of “fake news” in today’s media environment, we could not resist the urge to try our hand at the practice. However, doing so made us unspeakably uncomfortable and guilty and made us realize reporting in such a way is simply not our style.

From here on out, we promise our readers that we will continue to practice the serious, hard-hitting and objective journalism we have practiced since our founding, with an emphasis on staying true to the facts.

So now, whenever you see news from us in the future, you can rest assured it’s news you can trust.
