Missing children appear in Simpson opera production of Hansel and Gretel

SIMPSON — Two children made a surprise appearance in the Simpson opera this weekend after being reported missing from their homes, according to police reports.

The children, a brother and sister aged 8 and 10 respectively, have reappeared safe and sound after making their way onto the Simpson campus. According to their account, they first wandered into Pfeiffer dining hall, where they evaded the cooks who had reportedly tried to turn them into life-sized gingerbread cookies.

After escaping Pfeiffer, they eventually found refuge in Pote Theatre, where they entered to the sound of rehearsing singers. Their curiosity got the better of them, so immediately they asked to join the production.

“They were so excited, begging to be part of the show. We already invited other children from the community to sing with our vocalists, so we let them join. For their ages, they’re actually quite good,” said Dr. Bernard McDonald, director of the opera.

You can hear these children sing with Simpson students this weekend during the production of Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck. There will be two more shows: Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee at 2:00 p.m.
