Simpson Baseball Team Outraged Over Hiring Jeter as Head FOOTBALL Coach

Most known for being in the shadows of his older brother Derek, Simpson College announced Matt Jeter as next head coach of the Simpson football team.

“I’m no 5x World Series champion, but I’m making baby steps towards my older brother… just in a different sport” Matt Jeter said.

Brian Niemuth, director of athletics, says Jeter is the 33rd head coach in the program’s history and comes from NCAA Division II University of Central Missouri (UCM) where he was head coach of the Kickin’ Mules baseball team who had an incredible 43-8 record last year.

“It may not make sense to people they’re hiring me as their football coach when I’m a baseball coach, but c’mon they’re pretty similar… they both have guys running, throwing, adjusting themselves and trying to take each other ‘out’.”

Matt Jeter was one of the top baseball head coach recruits by the MLB. While at UCM, he coached the Mules to 13 Division II World Series. His greatest season came in 2005 when five of his Mules were selected in the first 11 rounds of the MLB draft.

Niemuth received criticism for hiring Jeter as the football coach instead of adding him to the baseball squad. However, he says it’s all part of his “master plan.”

No word yet on what that plan entails, but Simpson baseball players say they’re coming after Niemuth with their bats, balls and nut cups if he isn’t a part of the squad by next year.

When asked why Jeter left his position at UCM to come to Simpson to coach football, he simply replied, “The deciding factor for me was Simpson’s new mascot. Storm squirrel sounds so much cooler than the kickin’ mules!”

Matt and his older brother Derek Jeter will be on campus next week to further discuss their plans to improve Simpson’s baseball…. err, football team.
