Pi Beta Phi vs. Kappa Kappa Gamma in High Stakes Softball Game

2015-09-14_14-31-00SIMPSON – Tonight, softball squads from Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi will be competing in an effort to settle the long-standing dispute as to which sorority has complete control of campus.

Current battle lines have Pi Beta Phi with a tight grip on the east side of campus while Kappa Kappa Gamma rules with an iron fist over the west side.

2015-09-14_14-31-31Recruitment this year was used to cover up the fact that both sororities were adding “ringers” to their ranks. Betting pools on campus see tonight’s contest shaping up to be one heck of a game.

Watch out for Ruth Roberts, Pi Phi’s captain. Roberts averages four homeruns a game and that’s on her off nights. This sports reporter would advise against sitting in the left field bleachers as they are dented from being repeatedly hit during Roberts batting practice sessions.

On the other side of the diamond, Kappa will be starting their ace pitcher, Hannah Friesen. You may have seen Friesen in Simpson’s operas, but her high notes don’t even compare to her high velocity pitches. Friesen throws in the mid 90’s and that’s when she throws a changeup. The words “slow pitch” do not apply to this woman.

Here are tonight’s lineups:

Kappa is taking a page from Tony Larussa’s playbook and batting the pitcher in the eight-hole. I’ll be interested to see how that turns out.

The game starts tonight at 7:00 pm at the Buxton Softball Field inside the Pepsi MAX Thunderdome (which was completed early last year).

It’s free jersey night for the first 150 fans through the doors, so get remember to get there early. Additionally, if Roberts hits more than 3 homeruns tonight, there will be FREE mac and cheese bites at Tyler’s for the rest of the week.

Be sure to come out and support these two sororities, because tomorrow morning, one of them will be running your campus!
