Reaching Fourth Floor Wallace- A Simpson Success

2015-03-27_10-51-07

Simpson student Zoe Carlson found her success in an unusual place this morning. While walking to her class on the fourth floor of Wallace Hall, she realized something was different. When she reached the top of the stairs, she was in shock. Carlson had done the impossible: she made it to the fourth floor of Wallace Hall for an 8:00am course without being winded or hating everything.

This amazing feat deserves special recognition due to its rarity. Even student athletes have difficultly scaling the Wallace steps. Simpson Junior and cross country runner Nick Yaeger says he has never completed this task. “I run 70 miles a week, even in the off season. That climb to Wallace fourth floor is harder than any workout I’ve ever done. I have nightmares about it,” he confided.

Carlson credits Simpson’s Engaged Citizen Curriculum for her outstanding feat. “Without the unique blend of skills that Simpson taught me through the liberal arts education, I never would have had the mental fortitude to make it to the top of those stairs,” she stated proudly.

Carlson’s experience is just another Simpson Success Story that we at the Acorn are proud to report. We hope that Carlson’s example can set new standards for Simpson students so that we can all achieve our success together. We look forward to seeing more students on the fourth floor of Wallace not gasping for breath very soon.

An amazing feat with feet I remember reading a June 1953 issue of the Simpsonian and Edmund Hillary said after being the first person to climb Mt Everest, “Everest was easy but I would never attempt Wallace Hall at Simpson College.” Molly Monk and another Molly Monk kind of scoop actually a double scoop. When I want to keep up with the news I read The Acorn. And Molly makes Ian Frazier look like a hobo.

Ohhhh it’s Zoe Carlson! My screen here at happy hour gets smaller. Well Zoe’s stuff reminds me of Molly. Not a bad thing really. It’s a triple scoop. “Give me another bourbon.”
