T’was the night before finals

Story by Paige Dorn, read by Lionel Robertson, filmed/ edited by Nick Hermon

T’was the night before finals, when all throughout the dorm,

Not a creature was stirring, not one single Storm.

The study guides were left on the floor without care,

In hopes that Winter Break soon would be there.

The first-years were nestled all snug in their beds,

For they had never experienced the horrors that lied ahead.

And professors in their homes, and I passed out on my desk,

Couldn’t wait to give our brains a long winter’s rest.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters

and owed tons of money now because I damaged school property.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reinsquirrels.

And looking at them I came to one realization,

And that was that this must be caused by sleep deprivation.

More rapid than eagles his reinsquirrels, they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

“Now Tired! Now, Hungry!

Now, Cranky and Weary!

On, Exhausted! On, Drained! On, Donner and Dreary!

To the windoooow! To the waaaall!

Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”

And then, in a twinkling,

I heard on the door

A prancing and pawing I’d never heard before.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Down the hall he came with a great big bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

And was naked and tarnished with ashes and soot.

He took my hand and pulled me outside

And said “Follow me! You’re in for a wild ride!”

He had a skinny face and a cute little belly,

And I’m not going to lie he was a bit smelly.

He was chubby and plump, with fat little cheeks,

We were off so fast I didn’t even have time to Tweet!

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

We ran across campus, from Wallace to Merry Berry,

Then faster than magic to the sky I was carried!

And then laying his finger on the tip of his shoes,

And giving a nod, back to earth we flew!

Then he handed me a small little note,

I watched him take off, and read what he wrote.

His note was simple, and put me at ease,

Four little words: “C’s still get degrees!”

Then I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight, “Happy Finals to all, you will all do alright!”
